St. Brigid Ministries
Altar Servers Attention Boys And Girls!!
Are You Interested In Becoming An Altar Server?
We really need your help! One of the very important ministries we can offer a person your age is to become an Altar Server. When we gather for various liturgical celebrations, especially Sunday Mass, we are invited to participate in the fullest way in that worship service. Being an Altar Server is one such way that we share our God-given gifts with the rest of the Parish community. The Altar Server, as the name suggests, adds to the celebration of the Eucharist by his or her assistance to the Priest and Deacon presiding at Mass.
I would like to invite you to consider becoming an Altar Server. We have a great need for good, reliable, and prayerful servers at our liturgies, so I hope you would feel welcome to join your peers in this ministry. We have a number of boys and girls in both the School and Religious Education Program who are currently servers, so if you would like to know more about it, you can ask one of them, or contact me.
All boys and girls in Grades 5 through 8 (as well as high school grades) are welcome to be Altar Servers. There will be three training sessions to teach you all about this ministry, and you must attend all three sessions. If you have a conflict attending any of these three sessions, please contact me to work out an alternative. You also need to fill out a Permission Form and return it to me at the first training session. Permission Forms are available in the Church Vestibule, Rectory, School Office, or Religious Education Office. The dates/times for the Training Sessions (to be held in the Church) are as follows:
Se s s i o n 1
Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
- or -
Thursday, November 7, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
Se s s i o n 2
Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
- or -
Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
Se s s i o n 3
Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
- or -
Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 5:30PM to 7PM
P l e a s e N ot e:
It is very important that at least one parent (or guardian) sign the Permission Form - we need their permission for you to be able to help us. You must bring this Permission Form to the first training session.
Thanks very much, and I look forward to seeing you at the training sessions.

ALTAR SERVERS
Download and print a form here to have someone contact you about this ministry
Altar serving is a ministry of the Church. Altar servers, as ministers, are important participants in the liturgy. Becoming an altar server requires a commitment from both the student and the parents. Altar servers must be able to attend Masses if they are assigned, whether or not it is convenient. These include Sunday Masses, holy day Masses, weddings and funerals on weekends. Altar servers and parents must realize this ministry is a twelve month commitment, including holidays, summer and school vacations.

Bible Study
The Thursday Morning Bible study begins each year on Labor Day week and continues until May of the following year. The study meets from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Slattery Hall and is a time to learn about the Word of God in a group setting, as well as participate in sharing and prayer. There are generally three to four separate studies throughout the nine month period. Choose the ones you’d like to attend.

Meeting the Needs of the Community….
NEW! SPRED Ministry at St. Brigid Parish
Last fall when the director of SPRED for the Archdiocese spoke at our Masses, dozens of people expressed interest. Fast forward to 2024, and we are working to establish a SPRED Center at St. Brigid Parish, which will be located in one room of the Holy Child Center at OLH. We will get started with an adult group for ages 22 and over in April. Watch for an “Open House” for the parish in the summer.
“Special Religious Development,” or “SPRED,” is a ministry designed to meet the spiritual needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through the experience of friendship in one-to-one relationships, our friends with special needs discover a place where they belong and can enjoy meaningful relationships which help them realize their own giftedness and dignity.
- Different groups serve ages ranging from 6 through adult. Younger age groups are currently served at other nearby parishes. There is an established network of teams across the parishes to fit participants into the right age group at the right time.
- A SPRED group is a small faith community of adult helpers working one on one with special friends to help them experience God's presence and love in their daily lives. Because of their challenges, our friends understand God's words differently than others. We use objects, pictures, animation and song to bring awareness of God. The helpers also meet regularly as their own small faith community to prepare to be companions for their special friends.
- Adult helpers do not need any prior experience, as there is a comprehensive set of training classes to prepare you to serve this special community.
If you have a loved one who would benefit from SPRED, or would like to learn more about being an adult helper companion, please contact Donna Ianson or myself through the parish office at
847-244-4161.

Our teens are not only the “Church of the future;” they are the Church of RIGHT NOW!
Through youth ministry, we are aiming to connect teens with one another, to become involved in our parish, and to help them develop a heart for Christ. Youth ministry is defined by a visible presence of our teens across all areas of parish life, where they are active members from set up to leadership. Our teens can take an active role in service & mission, community development, faith formation, and prayer & worship.
We are seeking 8th through 12th graders to join us and have a role in developing what this ministry and our youth group will look like going forward. We also need adults ages to help plan and lead group activities, along with other adults of all ages to coordinate and assist as needed.
Please register for youth activities at https://bit.ly/3jcW8ZR and INVITE A FRIEND!
We look forward to having you join us this year.
